Christine Cavanaugh, veteran voice actor behind 'Rugrats,' 'Dexter's Laboratory' characters, dies at 51

Christine Cavanaugh, a veteran voice actor who can be heard in countless classic cartoon shows and movies, has died. She was 51 years old.

Although Cavanaugh died on Dec. 22, it is not clear what the cause of death is, reports TMZ.

Cavanaugh’s voice was heard in several classic cartoon shows from the 1990s, including Rugrats, Darkwing Duck, The Critic, The Powerpuff Girls and The Wild Thornberrys. On Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, she was the voice of Chuckie and she voiced the title character of Cartoon Network’s Dexter’s Laboratory.

Her voice could also be heard in theaters. She voiced the title character in the oscar-nominated Babe. She also appeared in front of the screen in episodes of ER and The X-Files.

According to the Los Angeles Times’ obituary, Cavanaugh was born on Aug. 16, 1963 and graduated from Utah State University. She retired from acting in 2001 to be closer to her family. While she had no children of her own, she was a godmother to her childhood friend’s daughter.
