Convicted sex predator wins jackpot in Florida, can collect winnings

A convicted sex predator in Florida won the lottery on a scratch-off and now can collect his huge prize.

WKMG reported that Timothy Poole, 43, struck it big and won $3 million after buying a ticket from a Mount Dora 7-Eleven convenience store on Saturday.

Poole claimed his winnings of $2,219,807.90 and posed for a picture with the check. Once the image was released people recognized him as a registered sexual predator.

In 1999, he was arrested for sexual battery of a 9-year-old boy. He plead guilty to attempted sexual battery and was released from prison in 2006.

He has said he was falsely accused of the crime.

The Orlando Sentinel noted that registered sex offenders have won millions in various lotteries and there is no law prohibiting them from collecting the prize money.

"There are no registration laws that would prevent that, but if that offender was under supervision or on probation there could be additional sanctions imposed by the judge," said Samantha Andrews of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
