GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten resigns after petty comments on Malia and Sasha Obama

Malia and Sasha Obama are teenagers, so the last thing they probably wanted to do last week was hang out with their dad. But since their dad happens to be President Barack Obama, they had to attend his turkey pardoning ceremony. They looked bored, which is apparently a sin for presidential family members, according to a GOP staffer who is now without a job.

Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for Tennessee Rep. Stephen Fincher, went viral over the weekend for a Facebook post that criticized the first daughters for not looking excited as their father pardoned a turkey. She also didn’t like what the girls were wearing.

“Dear Sasha and Malia: I get you're both in those awful teen years, but you're a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play,” Lauten wrote, reports ABC News. “Then again, your mother and father don't respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter. So I'm guessing you're coming up a little short in the 'good role model' department.”

She then told them to “Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

She later deleted it and posted a long apology. “After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents, and re-reading my words online I can see more clearly just how hurtful my words were,” the post read in part.

Well, the first thing she learned is that she needed to resign. She told NBC News that she was already working on her resignation papers this morning.
Here’s the ceremony:
