Gwyneth Paltrow talks Chris Martin split, sometimes thinks it 'would've been better' to stay married

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin might not have figured out their new relationship since “consciously uncoupling” in March. She expressed some regret over ending their marriage but she did make it a point to say that they’re really focused on staying connected no matter what.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the Oscar winner and GOOP founder said they’re “really close” friends but she does wonder if they should’ve just stuck it out.

“We've made a lot of mistakes, and we've had good days and bad days, but I have to say, I'm proud of us for working through so much stuff together -- and not blaming and shaming," she said.

"Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want,” she continued. “But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we're really close."

The couple share two children; Apple and Moses. He has since moved on – and split – from American Hustle star Jennifer Lawrence.

Paltrow not only touched on the state of their relationship now, she also talked about first meeting him before their 2003 wedding, right after the death of her father.

"I feel like I would have died somehow if I hadn't met him at that time. I felt like I was going to die of grief,” she admitted. The Coldplay frontman was there for her during that time, saying he was “loving and patient.”

"He's really great in a crisis. He has incredible empathy when it comes to somebody's pain,” she gushed. Still, she thinks she set an “unfair set of criteria” on him when he was just 25.
