J.K. Rowling's new Pottermore post takes a look at Snape's past

J.K. Rowling began her promised 12 days of new Harry Potter material on Pottermore today.

The piece can only be unlocked by answering a riddle, notes Entertainment Weekly. It reads, “In a house on Spinner’s End, a meeting takes place, a mother begs help for her son, tears on her face. Agreeing to help, though he doesn’t know how. Which potions master performs an unbreakable vow?”

Obviously, that answer has to be Severus Snape (played by Alan Rickman in the movies). Once you put that answer in Pottermore (after you have subscribed to the site, of course), you unlock the full piece for today.

In the story, Rowling looks at Cokeworth, Snape’s hometown where Harry’s mother and aunt also grew up. Rowling also took readers there at the start of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Last week, Rowling announced that she will be posting 12 stories, beginning today, through Christmas. She is expected to include a piece that looks at Harry’s rival, Draco Malfoy.

In other Rowling news this week, the BBC announced that her Cormoran Strike novels will be adapted into a TV series. An adaptation of The Casual Vacancy is also in the works.
