Katt Williams pleads not guilty to theft charge

Comedian Katt Williams spent Christmas Eve in court, entering a not guilty plea for robbery charges, stemming from an incident back in September.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney told The Associated Press that Williams was in court on Wednesday. The judge told him to be back on Feb. 3 for another hearing.

Back in October, Williams was arrested in Inglewood, California. Former rap music mogul Suge Knight was also arrested for a robbery charge in the case.

They are accused of trying to steal a female paparazzo’s camera on Sept. 5 in Beverly Hills. Knight, who was arrested in Las Vegas, has also pleaded not guilty.

If he’s convicted, Williams, who has had several run-ins with the law recently, could face up to seven years in prison. Thanks to his prior convictions, Knight could face up to 30 years if convicted.

“I can tell you from the evidence I have seen, it doesn’t support the charge against Mr. Knight,” Knight’s lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, told the New York Daily News in October. “(The alleged victim) didn’t mention Suge Knight doing anything to her in her statement to the police.”
