Marsala, shade of red, named Pantone's color of the year 2015

Everyone might be talking about shades of grey, but color authority Pantone believes that the top color of 2015 will be Marsala, a metallic shade of red.

Pantone unveiled its pick for next year’s color today. “A naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls,” the color institute stated. They suggested that its “impactful, full-bodied qualities” make the color perfect when used by itself or as an accent with many others.

“Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth,” Pantone executive director Leatrice Eiseman said. “Nurturing and fulfilling, Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room – making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.”

As Time notes, Pantone is owned by X-Rite and makes color-matching products. They have been picking colors of the year since 2000.

In 2013, they named 2014’s color Radiant Orchid, a shade of Fuchsia. The year before, Pantone picked Emerald.

Will you try to use Marsala more often next year?
