More than 200 arrested during Eric Garner protests in New York

More than 200 people in New York City were arrested during the second night of protests opposing a grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of a black man.

ABC News noted that authorities said most of the demonstrators were arrested Thursday for disorderly conduct or refusal to clear the streets.

The 223 arrest can be added to 83 the night before totaling 306 arrests in New York.

The city’s Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Friday that aside of some police cars being spray-painted, there has been very little vandalism.

As previously reported, thousands took to the streets after a grand jury’s decision not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Following the announcement Wednesday, diverse crowds protested in several cities across America including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Oakland, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

Demonstrators chanting "I can't breathe," and "No justice, no peace” blocked major roadways and shut down bridges in some areas.

More protests are expected in the coming days and a national march is planned for next week.
