Seven injured after car jumps curb, crashes into storefront

It was a terrifying scene in Midtown Manhattan Wednesday evening when a car suddenly jumped a crowded sidewalk and injured several pedestrians before smashing into the front of a clothing store.

NBC 4 New York reported that around 10 p.m. a Ford Mustang drove up onto the curb in the Herald Square shopping district and into a Forever 21 store. Four pedestrians, one Forever 21 employee, the female driver of the vehicle and her male passenger were all injured in the crash.

All seven people were transported to a nearby hospital. Although most of the injuries are serious, they are non-life-threatening.

Authorities have said that the 34-year-old driver was traveling eastbound near the Empire State Building when she rear-ended an SUV. She then immediately reversed and headed westbound into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle. That is when her car went up onto the sidewalk and into the storefront.

She has been taken into custody and could face DWI charges.
