Slender Man stabbing suspects ruled competent to stand trial

Two Wisconsin preteens, who were accused of stabbing their classmate because they wanted to be “proxies” of the fictional horror character Slender Man, have both been found fit to stand trial.

ABC News reported that on Thursday a judge ruled that Anissa Weier, 13, and Morgan Geyser, 13, were fit to stand trial, even though the defense’s doctors found Weier incompetent.

Judge Michael Bohren said that the prosecution had met the burden of proof and cleared her as competent.

According to court documents, the girls allegedly planned to kill Payton Leutner after a sleepover last May. Both suspects are accused of luring her into the woods and stabbing her repeatedly in order to "please" the Internet character.

Leutner was able to escape and was found on a pathway by a bicyclist. She had been stabbed 19 times.

The Associated Press noted that the defendants have been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

The victim has since recovered.

All of the girls were 12 at the time of the attack.
