Suspected Boko Haram militants kidnap 100 women, children in Nigeria

A Nigerian security source has said that at least 100 woman and children were abducted and many believe that the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is to blame.

BBC reported that a survivor of the attack said that gunmen stormed the village of Gumskiri on Sunday and not only kidnapped victims but also killed more than 30 people.

News of the raid was made public Thursday after survivors made their way to the city of Maiduguri. Mobile communications in some areas of the country are either poor or non-existent and word sometimes takes days to come out.

As Reuters noted, the militant group thought to be behind the attack is the same that kidnapped more than 200 school girls from Chibok back in April.

Most of the girls are still missing and the group’s leader claimed to have married them off.

Nigeria sentenced 54 soldiers to death on Wednesday for refusing to fight against Boko Haram. Troops have complained they are not provided with enough supplies and often outgunned by the militant group.
