Tiny NJIT defeats power-house #17 Michigan in stunning upset

Do me a favor and stand up if you actually knew the New Jersey Institute of Technology had a basketball team.  Actually, tell me if you even knew that school existed. Well, they do, and in fact are the only Division 1 independent in all the land.  The #17 ranked Michigan Wolverines also now know these guys play a little basketball.

Earlier today, the #293 ranked Highlanders absolutely stunned the college basketball powerhouse known as Michigan by the score of 72-70, in Michigan of all places, notes CBS Sports.

Damon Lynn led the way for the incredible underdogs with 20 points that included six three-pointers. The team shot a ridiculous 58.7% from the field.  Michigan's defense was inept all game long.

Jim Engles, head coach of NJIT, spoke after the game.

"I may appreciate winning more than anyone in the country," Engles said following his team's 72-70 victory over Michigan in Ann Arbor Saturday. "When I go into a season, and I hate to say this, but it's hard to win one game because I have a program where winning isn't a given," according to Detroit News.

The remarkable win now puts his team at 3-5, and he realizes what a huge accomplishment this really was.

"We're not Notre Dame football," Engles said. "Hopefully things like this can awaken the NCAA or some conference commissioners, because my guys deserve it just as much as the guys for Michigan. We shouldn't be the only independent in the country. I don't understand."
