Utah mother gives birth to quadruplets after her shocked expression went viral

After an expectant Utah mother’s shocked expression was shared via social media when she found out she was pregnant with quadruplets, she has now given birth to two sets of identical twin girls.

ABC News reported the babies were just born 29 weeks after the viral photo of Ashley Gardner appeared thanks to her husband, Tyson. The youngest newborn weight less than two pounds while the other three were over two pounds. They also all have dark hair.

A post on the family’s Facebook page read, “Mama is doing great and Dad is overjoyed!”

The couple, who live in Pleasant Grove, Utah, had been trying for years to have a child, but due to Gardner’s endometriosis, they decided to use in-vitro fertilization to split. Two embryos were implanted into her uterus, but then the embryos split, which in a natural birth is reportedly a chance out of one in 70 million.

Their facebook page revealed the babies names are Indie, Esme, Scarlett and Evangeline. Indie is the smallest baby by birthweight.

KSL in Utah reported the babies were delivered 12 weeks early and that around 28 to 34 weeks is the average time when quadruplets are delivered.

TLC is working with the Gardners on a new series that focuses on first time parents with their new babies. They captured Ashley and Tyson’s journey through pregnancy and their babies’ birth. The show will premiere later in the new year.
