‘Gotham’ Recap: “Welcome Back, Jim Gordon”

The episode begins with Fish in captivity, appearing to be in a basement somewhere. A man named Bob arrives, who likes like he is going to torture Fish. Bob and Fish exchange pleasantries until it turns sour and Fish seems to be handling her current situation the best she can.

Harvey and Jim arrive at a public service homicide crime scene when Harvey questions Jim about being caught with Dr. Thompkins. Harvey also reports that Fish has gone missing. They meet up with Detective Arnold Flass who works narcotics and they find the man Pinky Littlefield. Flass’ theory is that it was a deal gone bad. Jim examines the body and finds drugs and keeps them while they talk with the night janitor, Leon Winkler.

Winkler agrees to go down to GCPD to help with the investigation. He is sitting in the interrogation room when a man walks in and stabs him in the back…killing him. They investigate the murder and discover that security cameras had been turned off. Edward also discovers that the weapon was an icepick and that the wounds on Winkler were the exact same as the wounds on Littlefield.

Butch is being taken to a warehouse when he is able to escape his capture and demands to know where Fish is. Meanwhile, we see Fish with a plastic bag on her head, barely able to breathe. She continues to defy Bob and as he prepares to smash her knee with a hammer, Butch arrives and knocks him out…asking Fish if she is ok.

Captain Essing is demanding answers as to how there could have been a breach at GCPD. Jim is convinced that it is a cop and demands to find Winkler’s killer. Jim interrogates several members of GCPD and is able to get information on one. He tracks down a police officer Delaware in the parking garage and searches his car and finds the same drugs he found on Littlefield’s body.

Alfred is driving Bruce through Selina’s neighborhood looking for her. Bruce is worried about her and when they get out of the car, bump into Ivy. Bruce asks Ivy to pass along to Selina that he is looking for her. Ivy agrees…after Alfred pays her $20.

Captain Essing warns Jim not to purse anything else as Flass tells them that the drugs found on Delaware and Littleffeld were part of an undercover narcotics investigation. Easing tells Jim and Harvey they are off the investigation.

Ms. Kringle and Edward have another award encounter in which Ms. Kringle looks uncomfortable as usual and it is very obvious that Edward has strong feelings for her.

Fish is recovering at Butch’s house and is extremely grateful to him. Butch suggests they leave town but Fish wants to find Oswald and kill him. She knows he is the one who told Falcone about Liza.

Harvey tells Jim in a cafe about how Flass and his associates started busting drug dealers then taking over and operating their stash houses themselves. Harvey says Flass is well protected, but Jim doesn’t care and wants to find the stash houses to get evidence against Flass. They arrive at the stash house and find Delaware and demand to seize the drugs. Delaware’s men beat them up and say they were given a warrant to seize the drugs themselves. This just further shows the deep levels of corruption among GCPD.

Harvey and Jim return to GCPD and Essing tells them Winkler’s death was ruled a suicide. Jim refuses to believe that and Essing tells him to back off this, he walks out alone of GCPD.

Oswald is at Fish’s old club which will soon become his own. Jim arrives and talks with Oswald. He needs a favor and wants one of Oswald’s men to see if they have anything on Flass that can connect him to Winkler’s murder. Oswald says he will immediately look into and when Jim asks what he has to do in return, Oswald replied with “we’re friends…you don’t owe me anything.”

Victor Zsasz and his crew arrive and see that Fish has escaped and that Bob is injured. Victor then kills Bob. Meanwhile, Oswald is drinking and exploring in his new club when Fish and Butch walk in. Oswald looks completely stunned.

Bruce is playing chess at his house when Selina comes through the window. Bruce gives her a snow globe as a gift. He explains that Alfred took him out of town after the attack from the assassins. Bruce wants Selina to stay in the mansion but Selina refuses and asks him to stop hassling her. She also claims she didn’t actually see who murdered his parents. Bruce looks crushed.

Delaware is being interrogated by one of Oswald’s men. Delaware says that Flash killed Littleffeld to send a message. We see Oswald kissing Fish’s feet, begging for his life. She hits him with a bat and threatens him, then Oswald tells her he was working for Falcone the whole time.

Victor arrives and a shootout breaks out between his crew and Butch. They save Oswald while Butch and Fish escape through the basement. Butch helps Fish escape through a window then seals it off. He sees Victor as Victor shoots Butch in the leg. Victor is debating whether to kill Butch or not.

Edward and Ms. Kringle seem to be making some slight progress. Kringle apologizes for the card he gave her being read by Flass and other officers. He attempts to ask her out but she cuts him off before he can. “There is hope!” Edward says as she leaves the room.

Bruce is devastated as he sits across from the fire with the shattered snow globe at his feet. He is very upset and Alfred says he always had a bad feeling about Selina.

Oswald’s contact gives Jim the icepick Flass used in the Winkler murder. He confronts Flass and tells him he is under arrest for Winkler’s murder. They have a confrontation and Jim pleads his case with the rest of GCPD. Captain Essing finally stands up for him and arrest Flass.

Harvey and Fish meet at The Port of Gotham. Fish says she is going to leave town for a while. Harvey pleads with her not to come back. Fish says she will return and if Harvey sees Butch alive…to please help him.

An emotional Delaware meets with Jim in an alleyway and begs him to keep his family out of this situation.
