3 dead, 1 injured in suspected murder-suicide at California home

Authorities have said that three people, including the gunman, were shot and killed in what they believe was a murder-suicide at a Modesto, California home.

The Modesto Bee reported that officers responded to the home on Thursday evening after a man called 911 saying that he had killed his family.

The Associated Press noted that Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves said when officers arrived they found two male victims and one female shot to death and another female critically injured. The surviving victim was transported to a local hospital.

On Friday, Sgt. Mark Weiglein said that law enforcement authorities are investigating the crime as a murder-suicide and have concluded that the suspect shot his wife and children before turning the gun on himself. However, they are still trying to determine the possible motive for the shootings.

“Neighbors didn’t have any indication anything was wrong,” Weiglein said.

Modesto is located in Northern California and is about 90 miles east of San Francisco. It is the largest city in the county of Stanislaus.
