Bodies found in truck after shootout with West Virginia police

Authorities said that two police officers in West Virginia were injured after being shot during a traffic stop in which bodies were found in the back of a truck.

CNN reported that on Thursday, Lewisburg police pulled over an SUV that they believed was stolen. While they were in the middle of the traffic stop, a truck pulled up next to them and fired shots.

Both of the officers sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and one of them returned fire, shooting the gunman in the leg. He was then taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle that was initially stopped fled, but later turned himself in.

After the shootout, police made the gruesome discovery of a deceased elderly couple in the back of one of the vehicles. WRAL noted that the couple is Jerome Faulkner, 73, and his 62-year-old wife, Dora.

The suspects meanwhile, are thought to be father and son, but police have not yet released their identities. Authorities suspect that the duo stole the SUV in Texas then drove to North Carolina, killed the Faulkner’s, set fire to their home and stole their truck before the confrontation with police.

They each face several charges including murder.
