Kanye West and Paul McCartney release lullaby to North West 'Only One'

On New Year’s Day, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s collaboration “Only One” was released, a song that is likely as personal as it gets for West.

West provides the vocals for the song, which sounds like a lullaby, and the former Beatles star provided the instrumentals.

The unlikely duo, who have long been rumored to be working on a project together, started brainstorming in early 2014.

West’s label, Def Jam, said in a statement, “The process that would result in 'Only One' began with a simple brainstorming session between the two, with McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff.”

West describes the song as words he believes he heard through his late mother to his daughter with Kim Kardashian; 1-year-old North West.

“My mom was singing to me -- and through me -- to my daughter," he said through his label, Daily Mail reports. His name also means “only one,” which is what his mother, Donda West, used to call him as a child.

Kardashian posted a photo of the single art, which was shot by Inez and Vinoodh and gave her thoughts on the song.

“People always ask me what my favorite Kanye song is and it's Only One. Kanye feels like his mom sang thru him to our daughter,” she tweeted. “I cry every time I hear this song.”
