Kanye West fans left in the dark as to who Paul McCartney is following 'Only One' release

Some of Kanye West’s fans were introduced to Paul McCartney with the release of their duet “Only One,” hilariously praising the rapper for shining a light on an “unknown” artist.

McCartney, one of the most famous and decorated singers of our time, provided the instrumentals to the song. West described it by saying, “My mom was singing to me -- and through me -- to my daughter.”

Following its release, some clueless Twitter users began tweeting some cringe-worthy questions.

“Who is Paul McCartney? Why do people love him?” one person wrote, while another tweeted, “I don't know who Paul McCartney is, but Kanye is going to give this man a career w/ this new song!!”

ABC News reports it’s not clear if some of these tweets are real or if they were made up for attention, but either way it’s kind of jaw dropping to see.

Nonetheless, at the time of the track’s release, West’s record label Def Jam, said in a statement, “The process that would result in 'Only One' began with a simple brainstorming session between the two, with McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff.”
