Meghan Trainor takes Billboard No. 1 'Title' with first album

Meghan Trainor has turned the smash success of “All About That Bass” into a No. 1 album. Her first album, Title, took the Billboard 200 album chart by storm this week.

Title scored 230,000 total units earned during the week ending on Jan. 18, according to Nielsen Music statistics for Billboard. That total includes 195,000 in actual album sales, earning the best January debut since Justin Bieber’s Believe Acoustic in 2013.

The rest of Title’s total units moved includes streaming and digital track sales.

Title had the best female pop debut since Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream sold 701,000 copies in its first week in November 2009. Surprisingly, it is also the best opening for any full-length album since Scotty McCreery’s first album sold 197,000 copies in October 2011.

Trainor’s amazing success is thanks to “All About That Bass,” which became a No. 1 single on the Hot 100 in July. The album also includes the new single “Lips Are Movin,’” which has peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100.

She is poised to sell even more copies, since she is going to appear on The Voice next month.

The No. 2 album of the week is Taylor Swift’s 1989, which came in at No. 2 with 131,000 units.
