Netflix officially greenlights 'Wet Hot American Summer' limited series with original cast returning

Netflix has officially given the greenlight to a limited series follow-up to David Wain’s beloved cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer.

Most of the original cast - which included Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni and more before they became huge stars - are expected to return.

The limited series is expected to run eight episodes, with Wain back as director. He also co-created the series with Michael Showalter, who co-wrote the film. According to Deadline, they will executive produce with original producers Howard Bernstein, Jonathan Stern and Peter Principato.

Netflix later confirmed the news on Twitter, although the streaming service didn’t say when it is expected to debut.

There was some talk back in May 2014 that Netflix was looking to revive the movie with a 10-episode series. During the course of talks, two episodes must have been dropped.

Wet Hot American Summer was set in 1981 and made just $300,000 at the box office. Still, it has become a cult phenomenon, mostly thanks to the incredible cast filled with actors who would become stars.

In addition to those listed above, the film also featured H. Jon Benjamin, Judah Friedlander, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Kaz Orth and Molly Shannon.
