Republican Rep. Randy Weber slams Obama for not going to Paris with Hitler analogy

Rep. Randy Weber, a Republican from Texas, raised more than a few eyebrows on Monday with his attack on President Obama for not attending a Paris march against terrorism on Sunday. Weber tried a new way to get Obama’s name and Adolf Hitler in the same sentence.

“Even Adolph [sic] Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn't do it for right reasons,” Weber wrote.

Despite being widely criticised for his comment, Weber still has the tweet up. He also hasn’t sent out another message since.

As Politico notes, Weber has frequently called Obama “Emperor Obama” on Twitter, but this is the first time he compared Obama to Hitler.

Over 40 leaders managed to attend the Unity Rally, including U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Secretary of State John Kerry did defend the U.S.’ decision not to send a high-ranking official to the rally, noting that the U.S. has been fully supportive of France in this time of crisis.

However, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest later said on Monday that it was a mistake, notes The Associated Press. “It's fair to say we should have sent someone with a higher profile,” Earnest said.

The rally was in response to last week’s terror attacks in Paris. On Wednesday, two gunmen killed 12 people at the officers of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Then on Friday, those gunmen were killed. However, in a separate incident, two other extremists killed four hostages at a kosher supermarket and police are still searching for Hayat Boumeddiene.
