Simon Pegg co-writing 'Star Trek 3' alongside Doug Jung

Simon Pegg, as both a screenwriter and actor, has long established himself a loving nerd of sci-fi in addition to popular actor in the field. Considering his earned creditability in both, it shouldn't come to much surprise that he is going to blend his talents into the new Star Trek 3.

As Deadline reports, Pegg, in addition to returning to his role as Scotty, will co-write the action sequel with Doug Jung, creator of the TV series Dark Blue. Jung also wrote a film for Paramount and Bad Robot entitled Diamond, which got him the job.

Pegg also co-wrote other films he starred in, including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End, all of which he wrote alongside Edgar Wright, as well as Paul alongside Nick Frost and Run, Fatboy, Run with Michael Ian Black.

There's no clear idea where this new movie will go, which will now be directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) when producer Roberto Orci no longer directing. Under Orci's direction, the film was going to study the five-year mission of the Enterprise, but the script Orci wrote alongside Patrick McKay and John D. Payne will no longer be used.

Whatever the story is, it has to come together soon. The film, set for a release in July 8, 2016, is reportedly gearing up to shoot in Vancouver in April of this year. Deadline notes that this new Star Trek movie will have more Scotty thanks to Pegg's involvement, but that is likely just a joke on their expense.
