Trailer Weekly: 'Ant-Man,' 'Accidental Love' and 'Good Kill'

This week’s column talks about a plentiful array of movie genres including science fiction, ROM COM & thriller. Ant-Man tells the story of yet another Marvel comic superhero whose mission is to save the world. Accidental Love is a romantic comedy about a young small town waitress whose head injury leads her to Washington DC, where she meets a young yet naïve senator who takes up her cause. Finally, Good Kill is a thriller that follows a drone pilot/family man, who has begun to question the ethics of his job. All three films have celebrities in their cast that have huge fan followings, which is something that is sure to fill local theater seats to the brim on their opening days. In addition, some of these movies have actors and actresses playing roles that are completely out of their norm, which can either help or hurt them in audiences’ eyes.

Ant-Man is an action/science fiction flick based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Hayley Atwell of ABC’s new hit action/adventure television series Marvel’s Agent Carter, Judy Greer and Michael Douglas. Rudd plays con-man Scott Lang, who possesses a super suit that enables him to shrink in physical size yet increase in strength. Lang must embrace his inner hero in order to aid his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, (Douglas,) plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. The film’s trailer displays astonishing special effects as Pym recruits Lang, who has a young daughter, who he wants to look up to him, to become “Ant-Man,” a superhero whose mission is to save the world. It opens in theaters on Friday, July 17.

Accidental Love is a romantic comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden, Paul Reubens, Catherine Keener, Kirstie Alley, James Brolin, Tracy Morgan, David Ramsey from The CW’s hit superhero/action television series Arrow, and Kurt Fuller. The flick follows a young small town waitress, named Alice Eckle (Biel,) who accidentally gets a nail lodged in her head. Her lack of insurance to extract it along with her unpredictable behavior leads her to Washington DC. There she meets Howard Birdwell, (Gyllenhaal) a clueless young senator, who takes up her cause to help people with unusual conditions, who can’t pay for treatment and sparks fly, but what happens when love interferes with your ethics? The motion picture’s trailer shows Biel’s talent for physical comedy after accidentally getting a nail lodged in her head results in her exhibiting very unusual behavior. Alice heads to our nation’s capital and meets Birdwell and they connect instantly. It opens in theaters on Tuesday, February 10.

Good Kill is a thriller depicting the life of the pilot of a drone flyer, who begins to question the ethics of his job. Starring Ethan Hawke, Zoë Kravitz, who starred in the smash 2014 science fiction film Divergent, January Jones from AMC’s hit period drama television series Mad Men, Jake Abel from 2013’S Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Bruce Greenwood from 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. The movie’s trailer illustrates the intensity and ruthlessness of being a drone pilot as it vividly details the destruction they reign down on their terrorist targets. Hawke plays Tom Egan, a drone pilot, who begins to question the ethics of a job where you never meet your target and still drop killer bombs on them. It opens in theaters on Friday, April 10.
