Whitney Houston's sister-in-law Pat Houston on Lifetime biopic: 'Brace yourself for the worst'

The family of the late Whitney Houston has slammed Lifetime following the network’s debut of Whitney over the weekend. They previously spoke out about their disapproval when it was announced the biopic was being made.

On the official website of the late singer, her sister-in-law Pat Houston wrote a lengthy reaction piece.

In it, she slammed director Angela Bassett for casting Houston in an unflattering light.

She wrote her teenage daughter didn’t understand why a “woman who claimed to be her aunt's friend would direct a movie that seems so unloving towards her Aunt.” She responded “that there is often a fine line that separates elevation and degradation in the industry.”

Pat continued to warn, “If you watch this movie, watch it knowing that Lifetime is notorious for making bad biopics of deceased celebrities and brace yourself for the worst.”

Continuing on about Bassett, whom she wrote became involved in the biopic for her own selfish reasons, that “misrepresenting the term friendship to advance an agenda is not only disrespectful and dishonest but a slap in the face to her true and loyal friend.”

Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, released a similar statement after Yaya DaCosta was cast, asking everyone to just “let her rest.”
