Zombie cat Bart comes back from the grave, now recovering from surgery

The Walking Dead might seem like fiction, but no one told Bart the cat that, since he successfully came back from the dead. The “zombie cat” was buried by his owner, but managed to get out alive and is now recovering from life-saving surgery.

The Humane Society Tampa Bay said on Monday that the 2-3 year old cat was buried by his owner after being hit by a car. The owner thought Bart died, but five days after his funeral, Bart turned up alive in a neighbor’s yard.

Bart dug himself out of the grave and made it home, despite being dehydrated and weak. He suffered a ruined eye, broken jaw and open facial wounds. He is being treated at the Humane Society’s Animal Health Center and surgeons believe he will make a full recovery.

Since Bart became famous around the web as the “zombie cat,” the Humane Society has posted updates on Twitter and Facebook. Bart has already undergone surgery and will be recovering for a week.

The Humane Society also confirmed that the owner will take back Bart, who he loves very much.
