American Kennel Club ranks most popular dogs of 2014

Hey dog lovers, it’s that time of year again in which the most popular dog breeds in the U.S. are ranked. You can check below to see if your pooch was near the top of the list.

On Thursday, the American Kennel Club released its annual list of the most popular breeds in the country from the previous year and here is how they fared.

Taking the No. 1 spot is the Labrador retriever, followed by the German shepherd at No. 2. The golden retriever ranked third and bulldogs and beagles snagged No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

There were some big changes to the list as the dachshund did not crack the top 10 in 2014 and slid down to No. 11. And, the Associated Press noted that for the first time since the early 1900s, the bulldog’s cousin, the French bulldog, made its debut in the top 10 at No. 9.

Some of the other most popular breeds include the Yorkshire terrier at No. 6, the poodle at No. 7 and the Boxer and Rottweiler to round out the top 10.
