Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan cast in "Sleepless Night" remake

Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan have landed two major roles in the upcoming remake of the French action film "Sleepless Night".

According to Deadline, the remake sees Foxx play a cop who must fight for his son's life after the Mob takes him hostage as payback for a cocaine delivery intercepted by Foxx. Monaghan will play a law enforcement agent keeping a close eye on him.

The original 2011 film, directed by Frederic Jardin, was a critical hit at the Toronto International Film Festival, according to /Film. The movie was described by The Hollywood Reporter as While it wasn't a financial success in the US, a remake has been kicking around Hollywood ever since, first at Warner Bros. and now at upstart distributor Open Road Films.

The remake is directed by Baran bo Odar, whose previous credits include 2013's small indie drama The Silence, and is written by Andrea Berloff, who's been working on the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton and previously wrote World Trade Center.

Foxx is coming off of a year that included a number of sequels, including The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Horrible Bosses 2, as well as the Annie update. Meanwhile, Monaghan recently appeared in Nicholas Sparks romance The Best of Me, as well as HBO's hit drama True Detective.
