Kristen Stewart makes history at France's Cesar Awards

Kristen Stewart may need to take on a few more big roles before she gets the respect of Hollywood, but France’s film industry already loves her. The former Twilight star has become the first American actress to ever win a competitive award at the Cesar Awards Friday night.

Stewart starred in Clouds of Sils Maria, the latest film from Summer Hours director Olivier Assayas. It also starred Oscar winner Juliette Binoche and Chloe Grace Moretz. Entertainment Weekly points out that the film was nominated for six awards in total.

However, Stewart was the only one to win, taking home Best Supporting Actress.

The big winner on the night was Timbuktu, which won Best Film and Best Director for Abderrahmane Sissako, notes The Hollywood Reporter. The film was also nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar.

Marion Cotillard surprisingly lost Best Actress, despite earning a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars for Two Days, one Night. Instead, the winner was Love At First Fight’s Adele Haenel.

As for Stewart, this award could help Hollywood take her previously-maligned skills seriously. Other recent serious roles she’s taken include Camp X-Ray and Still Alice.
