National Kahlua Day: Top 10 Kahlua Recipes

Kahlua is a coffee-flavored rum-based liqueur from Mexico. Today, February 27, is National Kahlua Day.

Kahlua was introduced in 1936. Premium Arabica coffee beans and sugarcane are two major ingredients in Kahlua and both are also agricultural crops harvested in Veracruz, Mexico.

A bottle of Kahlua takes about seven years to make. First the ingredients are grown and harvested. The coffee beans are then air dried, aged for six months and roasted. Sugar canes are crushed, juiced, boiled and fermented into alcohol and stored in barrels. The coffee is roasted and grounded, then combined with the sugar cane alcohol, vanilla and caramel and rests for about eight weeks before being bottled.

Kahlua has been used in many different ways, it can be used to make cocktails or as an ingredient for cakes, cookies, ice creams and cheesecakes and can be mixed with milk, cream, coffee, cocoa or all of these at once. Kahlua is mainly known as the main ingredient in cocktails such as Black Russians, Mudslides, White Russians and Spanish Coffee.

In honor of National Kahlua Day, here are some great treats that you can incorporate Kahlua into.
