Seahawks' Richard Sherman and girlfriend welcome first child, Russell Wilson offers to babysit

If Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was hoping to forget about his team’s Super Bowl XLIX loss quickly, he found a way. He and his girlfriend, Ashley Moss, welcomed their first child today.

Sherman announced the happy news on Twitter, writing that their son “sure does know how to make an entrance,” adding, “2/5/15... Is it a coincidence or is he just that clever?! Either way I'm ecstatic.”

Later today, he wrote, “Haven't felt anything better than this! Thank you God such a blessing!”

While Sherman didn’t share the baby’s name himself, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King reported that the baby’s name is Rayden.

If Sherman needs a babysitter, quarterback Russell Wilson will be available. He offered up his services on Twitter, and Sherman said he would hold him to that.

In the days before the Super Bowl, Sherman brought up the possibility that he would have considered not playing in the game to be with Moss. She did go to Arizona with the team and they did make arrangements in case the baby was going to be born early.

Sherman did play in the game, which ended in a Patriots victory. He did suffer an elbow injury during the NFC Championship Game, but it’s not known if he will have to undergo surgery, notes ESPN.
