Teen killed in shootout with Maryland police linked to Kentucky triple homicide

A car chase in Maryland over the weekend resulted in a shootout with police, which killed a teenager, wounded an officer, and possibly uncovered who killed three people several states away.

CNN reported that the entire incident began on Saturday when a state trooper attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle that the teen, identified as Jason C. Hendrix, was driving.

WJZ noted that Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore police department said that after state police broke off the pursuit of the suspect, Baltimore County police picked up the chase.
They eventually surrounded the SUV and when they approached the vehicle, the lone occupant started firing shots and hit one of the law enforcement officials.

“Officers then returned fire,” Wachter said. “The suspect in the vehicle, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene.”

Maryland police looked in Hendrix’s background and linked him to an address in Corbin, Kentucky. When they alerted their counterparts several states away, police there uncovered a triple murder scene at the residence. Furthermore, the victims were the 16-year-old’s parents and sister.

Police in both states are now trying to piece together what happened that could have led to the tragic events.

The wounded officer was transported to a local hospital and released. The shot hit him in his bullet-proof vest.
