Brock Lesnar signs contract extension with WWE

Former UFC Champion and current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has announced that his career in mixed martial arts is officially over.

Lesnar told ESPN that after nearly a year of consideration he decided to close the door on a return to the Octagon and sign a contract extension with WWE. Lesnar, who captured the UFC Heavyweight title in 2008, said that the choice was not easy to make.

"It was a very hard decision at this stage of my career," Lesnar said. "The fighter inside me wants to compete. The father and husband -- I'm an older caveman now. I make wiser caveman decisions. So, I'm here to say my legacy in the Octagon is over."

Lesnar's career in UFC was cut short due to an intestinal disorder that kept him on the sideline for a year. Lesnar last competed at UFC 141 in 2011 where he lost in the first round to Alistair Overeem. The two-time NCAA wrestling champion left UFC with a record of 5-3 and made his return to WWE the night after Wrestlemania 28 in 2012.

In his second stint with the company, Lesnar has been portrayed as a dominant force and captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from John Cena at Summerslam last August. WWE legend and COO Triple H sent out a tweet expressing his excitement for re-signing Lesnar.

The announcement comes just days before Wrestlemania 31 where Brock Lesnar will defend his championship in the main event against Roman Reigns on Sunday.
