Drivers in Chicago are being warned about robbers using construction barrell to lure victims

Police in a neighborhood in Chicago are warning drivers about robbery attempts using a roadblock sign as a ruse to stop people in their cars.

According to the Chicago Tribune, there have been two robberies between an expressway known as the Dan Ryan and an area where there is an actual construction project going on near the 400 block of West 51st Street in Fuller Park.

A construction barrel reportedly blocked drivers and once they got out to move it out of the way, at least three or four robbers beat them before stealing from their person.

The men were described as being between the ages of 17 and 23 and at least 5 feet 4 11 inches tall. Both robberies took place around 6 pm March 26 and around the same time on March 29.

WLS reported there is actual construction work going on down one lane along West 51st but the thieves were targeting drivers on the other lane by blocking it with the barrel.

One resident of Fuller Park, Latonia Jackson, said “I think it’s terrible. I live in the neighborhood. It’s unsafe for everybody.”
