Former child star Lisa Jakub remembers working with Robin Williams on 'Mrs. Doubtfire'

Lisa Jakub, who played Robin Williams’ oldest daughter in Mrs. Doubtfire, described the late funnyman as “shy,” but always one who cared about the people he worked with.

According to Today, Jakub, who retired from acting and is now a writer, wrote a book about her life, including her time working with Williams for the 1993 film.

Speaking about Williams, she said, “I’m just about the place where I don’t cry every time I talk about him.” She talked about four things she learned about Williams and not just that he was a comedian.

For one thing, Williams tried to help her when her school back in Toronto, Canada expelled her for missing school while working on Doubtfire. While this did not help her get back into the school, it showed her that he was there for her and she found it to be “precious.”

He also was candid about his history with drug use in order to prevent them from making those kind of mistakes and he helped her learn how to improvise as an actress.

E! News reported that in addition to learning these things from Williams, Jakub also learned that being shy wasn’t so bad. “A lot of people asked if it was exhausting to be around him, because he’s ‘on’ all the time, and that was not true at all. He was a little shy. As a massive introvert, I found that so reassuring, that it was OK to be a little quiet and just listen sometimes.”

Her book, You Look Like That Girl: A Child Actor Stops Pretending and Finally Grows Up will be available on June 15.
