Kate Mara to star in sci-fi thriller 'Morgan' produced by Ridley Scott

After starring on American Horror Story and House of Cards, Kate Mara is moving to some science fiction projects, now signed on to an upcoming Ridley Scott produced sci-fi thriller.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Mara will star in Morgan, a sci-fi film directed by Luke Scott, son of acclaimed director Ridley Scott. The project will be Luke Scott's directorial debut after working as second unit director on Ridley Scott's latest movie Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Morgan will follow a corporate risk-management consultant who has to decide if she should terminate an artificial being. The screenplay is written by Seth Owen and it made the 2014 Black List, the list of best screenplays in Hollywood that have gone unproduced.

Anya Taylor-Joy is also in talks to star in Morgan opposite Mara. Joy is known for recently starring in the horror film The Witch, which premiered at Sundance this year, generating a lot of buzz and pretty solid reviews.

Mara is known mainly for her role as reporter Zoe Barnes on Netflix's House of Cards. This will the third in a series of science fiction projects that Mara has become involved in. She is also starring in Ridley Scott's upcoming film The Martian opposite Matt Damon, according to Deadline. In addition, she'll be playing the Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four this summer, although that's definitely less science fiction than these other two movies.

Ridley Scott will be producing Morgan under his Scott Free production company. Luke is actually not the first of Scott's children to get involved in directing. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, his daughter Jordan Scott and son Jake Scott have also directed films in recent years.

This is yet another upcoming project that Ridley Scott will be involved in. He is currently directing The Martian and is expected to soon work on Prometheus 2. He will also be working on the Blade Runner prequel, Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel, and producing a whole bunch of other projects including Killing Jesus and the TV miniseries The Hot Zone. Even at nearly 80 years old, Ridley Scott still has an insane amount of projects up in the air. Let's just hope some of them are more successful than Exodus: Gods and Kings.
