Showtime picks up 'Billions' with Paul Giamatti, 'Homeland' star Damian Lewis

Damian Lewis is returning to Showtime with Paul Giamatti coming along. The two acclaimed actors will star in Billions, a financial drama that Showtime picked up for 12 episodes.

News of the project first surfaced in June, as Showtime began developing the project with financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin (Too Big To Fail) as an executive producer. He is writing the project with Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Ocean’s Thirteen, Rounders).

Today, Showtime president David Nevins confirmed that production will begin later this year on location in New York. Billions will premiere in 2016.

Giamatti will star as U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades. He faces off with hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, played by Lewis. Neil Burger (Divergent) directed the pilot.

Other members of the cast include Maggie Siff (Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men), Malin Akerman, Condola Rashad, Toby Leonard Moore and David Costabile.

Lewis recently starred on Showtime’s Homeland and starred in the PBS/BBC miniseries adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall.

As for Giamatti, his last TV project, FX’s Hoke, never aired. He was recently seen in Love & Mercy and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
