Stephen A. Smith wishes black Americans would vote for GOP

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has said that he wishes black Americans would vote for the GOP in one election.

USA Today noted that Smith made his comments during the Impact Symposium at Vanderbilt University in Nashville on Tuesday.

The First Take host rationalized his feelings by saying that if black Americans did vote Republican, it would show that the majority of his race is not under control of one party.

“What I dream is that for one election, just one, every black person in America vote Republican,” he said.

He went on to explain that he believes voting for the GOP one time could be a way to get both parties to pay attention to the racial demographic and their needs. He said by not doing so, African Americans are telling one party that it definitely has their vote.

In the 2012 election, 93 percent of black voters supported President Barack Obama, while 6 percent voted for the Republican ticket.

Below is the audio from Smith’s monologue.
