The CW finds Hawkgirl for 'Arrow'/'The Flash' spin-off series

The CW is starting to add new faces to a proposed third series set in the Arrow/The Flash universe. Hawkgirl will be a part of the series and will be played by Ciara Renee.

The casting was first reported by Deadline, which noted that it will be the first big television role for the actress. Renee did make an appearance in Law & Order: SVU, but most of her work has been exclusively on Broadway. She was in Big Fish and Pippin.

Hawkgirl isn’t actually one of the three never-before-seen-on-TV DC heroes Greg Berlanti and his team plan on bringing to the series. Sahar Biniaz briefly played the character near the end of Smallville’s run and Hawkgirl was in the Justice League animated series.

Deadline also reported on Monday that Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill will play Rip Hunter, who is one of those three never-before-seen-on-TV DC heroes.

News that The CW and Berlanti were starting work on a third series began brewing in January. Then in February, the picture became clearer.

The new series will star many of the recurring characters from the Arrow/Flash world, including The Atom (Brandon Routh), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber). Caity Lotz is also supposed to be in it, but her role remains a mystery since Sara Lance was killed off.
