Will Ferrell says Oklahoma scandal gives reason to ban fraternities

Will Ferrell shared his thoughts about the future of fraternities after the University of Oklahoma video scandal.

During an interview with the New York Times, Ferrell said that the video of Sigma Alpha Epsilon members singing a racist song gives reason to the consideration that fraternities should be banned. Ferrell, a fraternity member himself, said that fraternities have a lot to offer but can be detrimental because of the culture they create.

"Because when you break it down, it really is about creating cliques and clubs and being exclusionary," he said. "Fraternities were started as academic societies that were supposed to have a philanthropic arm to them. And when it’s governed by those kind of rules, then they’re still beneficial."

Ferrell was a part of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity when he was an undergraduate at the University of Southern California. According to Huffington Post, Ferrell said that his experience with the fraternity was all about having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.

Ferrell can be seen next when Get Hard co-starring Kevin Hart hits theatres on March 27.
