‘Gotham’ Recap: 'Beasts of Prey'

The episode begins with Fish walking inside the hospital, appearing to be in some powerful position. She slips outside while the alarm goes off and sees a helicopter nearby. She walks towards it but is approached by security. She tries to convince them that she is the new assistant to Dr. Dollmaker. The security, led by a man “The Catcher” warns her not to come outside again…or he will kill her.

Jim visits Bruce at Wayne Manor and asks about Alfred’s recovery. Bruce says Alfred is recovering nicely but will not reveal who stabbed Alfred. Jim knows that Bruce is lying and warns him to be safe and stay out of Alfred’s fight.

Jim is approached by a young Officer Moore at GCPD who respects what he is trying to do. He also wants Jim to take a case of a young woman who was brutally murdered. Jim talks with Leslie and they find out the victim’s name is Grace Fairchild. Leslie recognizes her from her neighborhood and that she used to hang out at speakeasies. Jim is obviously going to investigate Grace’s murder.

Alfred tells Bruce he must go into town to find Reggie before he leaves town. Bruce seems reluctant to let him leave and Alfred stumbles and we see that his wound has started bleeding.

Oswald is in the process of trying to purchase another bar. The owner refuses his original offer of being partners, unless Oswald can find her daughter and convince her to leave the man she ran off with and come back home. Oswald promises that she will be back for Sunday Mass.

Harvey is immediately refusing Jim’s offer to help him with the Fairchild case. Edward stops by and gives them a list of the speakeasies and Jim asks Edward to try and find out what the piece of missing evidence is. Jim continues to plead with Harvey about helping him. Harvey respects what he is doing but also yields a warning about his dealing with Loeb. “If you fly too close to the sun, you are going to get burned!” Words of wisdom from Harvey.

Fish goes to see an injured Kelly and says she has a plan to escape but needs his help. Fish also convincing a group of criminals that they can escape the island by boat. Fish says she will find the keys which will allow them to escape.

Jim and Harvey visit the last speakeasy on the list. The bartender remembers seeing Grace in there several months ago. We then flashback to seeing Grace at the bar flirting with a young man. He tells her what he wants scares people away. He tells her that he is searching for unconditional, intense love. They go back to the man’s place and she is exploring his place and we see him close a door to a room that is full of torture devices.

Bruce writes down several address and leaves while Alfred is sleeping. He arrives outside a gun range as we see Oswald walking in the background. Oswald arrives at a warehouse where they have captured the man who caused the owner’s daughter to run off. Oswald says he is a guitar player…so they will “lose” his fingers.

Jim and Harvey visit Leslie at the morgue and the autopsy on Grace is strange because she was missing for four months and was stabbed in the heart and throat, but her body was kept in a somewhat good condition. Harvey suggests a theory that maybe she ran off on her own, to which Jim denies and says she was kidnapped and murdered.

We return to the flashback of Grace waking up at this man’s house. She is ready to go to work and see him again, but he is very adamant to let her leave. We find out his name is Jason and he grabs her by the wrist and tells her she isn’t going anywhere.

Fish sneaks into Dollmaker’s office and finds the keys in his desk. She is about to escape when he walks into his office, looking shocked to see her. Fish lies and says she was there looking for supplies. He knows she is lying to her and pulls a gun on her. Fish comes clean but says she was lying, but not trying to escape. Her worst fear is becoming like the man that Dollmaker created with different body parts. Dollmaker warns Fish if she does something like this again, her worst fear will become a reality.

Bruce is walking through a back alley when he runs into Selina. He tells her he is searching for Reggie but can’t find him at any gun range. Selina offers her help.

We see the bar owner’s daughter returned to her disappointed mother. Oswald arrives to talk business with her. Gabe wants to know why this place is so important to him. We see a picture of Maroni on the wall and Oswald reveals this is where he is going to kill Maroni.

Edward brings Jim and Harvey a photocopy of a hand-painted broken heart that was recovered at the crime scene. Harvey immediately recognizes it and tells Jim this is why they got burnt. This man is a serial killer. We return to the flashback of Jason and Grace eating dinner. Grace is very scared and uncomfortable. The dinner quickly becomes violent as he ties up Grace and takes pictures of her while pulling out a knife.

Fish meets with the crew and says she is going to rescue Kelly while they should go to the boat. The other crew rushes to the boat while Fish goes to save Kelly. Dollmaker cuts her off and says she shouldn’t have lied. The cell door opens and the crew rush Dollmaker and knock him down. Fish takes Kelly and his men to the helicopter to escape while the rest of the crew are massacred by the boat. The chopper escapes but “The Catcher” is able to shoot Fish in the chest.

Bruce and Selina find Reggie and Bruce demands to know who sent Reggie. He refuses at first then reveals the names of who sent him. Bruce seems to know those names and as Reggie is leaning out the window to get his medicine, he debates pushing him but before he can act, Selina pushes him out of the window.

Harvey tells Jim about The Ogre and how he lures young women, holds them captive and eventually kills them. He has almost a dozen victims. Harvey also tells him that The Ogre will go after any loved ones of any cop that investigates him. Harvey and Jim confront Officer Moore about why he gave them the case. Moore says Commissioner Loeb is behind this. An angry Jim confronts Loeb and says that he is going to bring The Ogre to justice and then he is coming after the commissioner…
