Dolphins' Dion Jordan suspended for violating league's substance abuse policy

Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan was suspended without pay for the entire 2015 season on Tuesday.

The suspension is a result of a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. There were a lot of questions about Jordan’s status and future with the Dolphins after he didn’t show up to any of the teams voluntary workouts last week. Jordan didn’t fail a drug test, but it was determined that one of his test samples were diluted, which counts as a violation, according to ESPN. He will lose $3,335,418 of his signing bonus and $2,275,209 in salary this year due to the suspension. Jordan will not appeal the suspension.

"We were disappointed to learn about Dion Jordan's most recent suspension for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse," the Dolphins said in a statement. "A player's health and well-being are of the utmost importance to us. We have made every effort to support Dion, both on and off the field and we will continue to do so to the extent allowable under NFL guidelines."

Jordan was drafted by the Dolphins in 2013. As a rookie he had 26 tackles and two sacks. Last year he was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the drug policy. He was suspended for more games after another violation was found. He has 46 tackles and three sacks in 26 games with the Dolphins, according to the Associated Press.

Jordan’s suspension could affect the Dolphins strategy for the NFL draft, which starts Thursday. The Dolphins have the 14th pick in the first round.
