'Furious 7' leaves 'The Longest Ride' in the dust with $60 million, 'Home' comes in second

Furious 7 continued its incredible ride at the box office this weekend, easily topping the weekend. The Longest Ride, the latest film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel, didn’t do too badly, but it came in a very distant third.

Universal’s seventh Fast & Furious movie grossed $60.6 million, according to estimates for Rentrak. That brings its domestic total to $252.5 million after just 10 days in theaters. It has already surpassed the domestic total Fast & Furious 6 earned during its run in 2013.

Overseas, the film racked up a stunning $195 million over the weekend. That brings its international total to $548 million. In total, the film is up to $800.5 million worldwide and certainly has a shot at reaching $1 billion. It’s clear that audiences around the world want to see Paul Walker’s final performance.

The No. 2 film at the box office was also a holdover. DreamWorks Animation’s Home continues to do well, adding another $19 million. The film is up to $129.5 million domestically.

Fox’s The Longest Ride opened with $13.5 million. That’s a respectable number for a romantic drama and is actually better than the previous Sparks movie. The previous one, Relativity’s The Best of Me, only opened to $10 million in October 2014.

Get Hard with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart added $8.6 million, while Disney’s Cinderella rounded out the Top 5 with $7.2 million.

It’s worth noting that Radius-TWC’s It Follows continues to be a surprise hit indie film. The horror movie added $2 million, which is good enough for No. 8 on the chart. While it was initially supposed to hit VOD on the same day as its theatrical release, it has grossed $11.7 million so far.
