Getty oil heir found dead, no sign of foul play yet

Andrew Getty, the grandson of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, was found dead Tuesday afternoon. Police said that there is no sign of foul play, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The 47-year-old was found at his Hollywood Hills home, his parents said in a statement. Reuters reports that the Los Angeles Police Department said “it does not appear to be a criminal act.”

A law enforcement source did tell the Los Angeles Times that Getty did appear to suffer blunt-force trauma, but it is not known what caused that. He was found naked from the waist down.

The autopsy will probably not be completed before Thursday, the LA county coroner said. Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said that there were bottles of medication recovered and they plan on contacting a doctor for information on the medication.

Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that Getty got a restraining order against his former girlfriend, Lanessa DeJonge. He claimed that she knew that he was suffering from a “serious medical condition” and tried to exploit that. The stress of the situation only made his condition worsen.

The Getty family has been struck by several tragedies in the past. Andrew’s cousin, J. Paul Getty III, was kidnapped in 1973 and died in February 2011.
