Horrific Lucille Ball statue gets no love from fans

Everyone loves Lucille Ball, but absolutely no one loves a horrific bronze statue of the Hollywood icon that stands in her hometown of Celoron, New York.

The life-size statue is supposed to show the I Love Lucy star in one of the most iconic moments from the show - the vitameatavegamin bit. But the statue looks not only unflattering, but absolutely nothing like Ball.

“Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty. Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful,” a Jamestown, New York man told Yahoo News. “This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that... the statue should go.”

The man is a big fan of I Love Lucy and also started a Facebook page called “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue.” The page has nearly 800 likes from fans who are just disturbed by the statue.

Sadly, replacing the stature would cost too much for Celoron to replace. The village’s mayor, Scott Schrecengost, told the Post-Journal that the sculptor, Dave Poulin, wants between $8,000 and $10,000 to re-do it. Other sculptors offered, but wanted around $5,000.

“I've got so many other things I'm working on in the village. I need to set my priorities,” Schrecengost said. “These people on Facebook need to realize that we're all aware that (the statue) doesn't look like Lucy and needs to be fixed. We're just working on getting the funds to do that.”

The statue was unveiled in August 2009 and weighs 400 pounds.
