Jurors in Etan Patz trial continue deliberations for third day

For the third day, jurors in the Etan Patz trial continue to weigh the fate of Pedro Hernandez, the man accused of murdering the child back in 1979.

Reuters noted that the jury may be zeroing in on a confession Hernandez gave to authorities in 2012.

On Thursday, jury members asked Judge Maxwell Wiley to re-explain what constitutes a voluntary statement. They were told that they could discount any or all of Hernandez’s multiple confessions.

As previously reported, Hernandez said in a videotaped confession that he strangled the 6-year-old Patz and stuffed his body in a garbage bag.

"I was nervous; my legs were jumping," Hernandez said. "I wanted to let go, but I just couldn't let go. I felt like something just took over me. I don't know what to say. Something just took over me and I was just choking him."

However, after he gave that confession, he retracted it and now says he did not commit the murder.

Hernandez’s lawyers said that their client suffers from mental issues and has an IQ of 70.

Patz went missing after he walked to a school bus near his family’s New York City home. He never boarded the bus and his body has never been found. His face became the first ever pictured on the side of a milk carton.
