Jury finds Aaron Hernandez guilty of first degree murder

After about a week of deliberations, jurors in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial found the former NFL star guilty of murder in the first degree.

ABC News noted that the seven women and five men on the jury came back with a guilty verdict on Tuesday morning convicting Hernandez of killing semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. The victim was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée at the time of his murder and was found shot to death in an industrial park.

As the verdict was read, Hernandez looked upset but remained quiet and calm while family members on both sides of the courtroom wept.

Under Massachusetts guidelines, the 25-year-old former New England Patriots tight end will serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury also found him guilty on several counts of weapons charges.

As previously reported, Hernandez had also been charged with the killing of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside a Boston nightclub in 2012.

He is set to be tried separately for those murders and has plead not guilty.
