‘The Voice’ top 10 perform

The Voice is back and the top ten vocalist having been preparing to win America’s vote. This week the top ten and coaches will be getting a little help from some of the best of the best in the industry.

Team Christina will be working with Mark Ronson, who worked on her Back to Basic album and is the mastermind behind “Uptown Funk.” Team Pharrell will be working with One Republic front man and hit maker Ryan Tedder. Working with Adam would be David Stewart and Shelton teamed up with his longtime producer Scott Hendrick.

The night started off with the top ten performing an Elton John melody that included hits like “Saturday Night (Alright For Fighting).”

Starting the individual performances was Kimberly Nichole from Team Christina. She sang “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” by Etta James. Coach Christina was pleased to pass this song onto her teams; James is a favorite of hers to cover. Williams started off the comments by saying that she reinvented what a ten performance means. Levine said that was a “lights out” performance. Coach Christina said that she never knows what to expect from Nichole but the energy in the room is so electric and that she always brings the house down.

Next up was Joshua Davis from Team Adam. Davis performed “Hold Back The River” by James Bay. Former coach Blake Shelton said that it was a completely different look and vibe and that it was really cool. He added that this song really pushed him hard and allowed him to get into his upper register. Williams agreed with Shelton and said it was good to show the audience that there is a broad spectrum for his voice. Coach Adam explained that yes this was a different direction and a challenge but it was something that he wanted to tackle with Davis together.

Following Davis was Hannah Kirby. She sang “Shout” which was original performed by Tears for Fears. Aguilera said that Kirby has a powerful presence on stage and it is natural for her to won the stage. Williams said that he is really proud that she changes up the songs and makes them her own. Shelton added that when it comes to performing, Kirby is a freak of nature, in a good way.

Up next was Meghan Linsey from Team Blake. She took on a Louisiana classic, “Home.” Aguilera said that was the best performance she has had on the show and that Linsey really just threw her heart on the stage. Levine added that this performance put her way up in the top of the running for this show. Shelton said that they are really on to something with this performance.

Following Linsey was Koryn Hawthorne from Team Pharrell who picked “Make It Rain” by Ed Sheeran for her performance. Shelton said that he wasn’t sure if Hawthorne could have done any better with that song. Aguilera added that it was her best performance yet on the show. Williams said that her song inspires the room and America is inspired.

Deanna Johnson from Team Adam took the stage next. She sang “Somebody to Love.” Aguilera started the coaches’ comment by saying that the song was challenging but she really rose to the occasion. Levine added that it feels like Johnson really accomplished something great with this cover.

Next up was Rob Taylor from Team Christina. Taylor performed “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway. Williams said that this was a unique opportunity to really see what Taylor does as a singer. Aguilera added that it really opened up a whole different side to Taylor.

Continuing the performances was Corey Kent White from Team Blake. “Unwound” by George Strait was the song that White chose for his top ten performances. Levine said that White has been getting better as he goes on in the competition and that he couldn’t ask for anything more. Shelton added that despite a lyric slip up during the performance, White just kept on going and that is the true sign of a performer.

Sawyer Fredricks from Team Pharrell put his own unique spin on “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls. Shelton said that his voice is raspy and freaking good. Aguilera added that she is a big fan and that it was awesome as usual. Williams said it is crazy how Fredricks goes from zero to sixty and the whole room felt those larger notes in the performance.

Closing out the night was India Carney from Team Christina. Williams said that it was beautiful and an incredible performance. Coach Christina said that we all know how beautiful her voice is and that she got back up and owned this song.

The results will be announced tomorrow during the live show on NBC.
