Tony Romo says Ray Rice, Greg Hardy deserve another chance

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has said that both Ray Rice and Greg Hardy deserve another chance despite serious off-the-field issues.

The Dallas Morning News noted that Romo made the statements about both men Wednesday during a radio show on KESN-FM 103.3.

“If every time someone did something wrong everybody turned the other way and didn’t like anybody on this planet, really in general, I would think that none of us would like each other,” the quarterback told the station. “I just think with some people, stuff ends up getting found out about and they have to deal with it and take responsibility for it, especially when you’re in the public eye. I just think that everybody deserves a second chance. I think that’s just part of what we should be doing as people and as teams.”

Romo’s comments are controversial because of the video evidence against Rice, deplorable allegations that were made against Hardy and the way the league is trying to change face on domestic violence issues.

Many are also questioning why he voiced his opinion now.

As previously reported, the Cowboys signed Hardy last month so Romo is obviously speaking in support of his new teammate. However, bringing up Rice’s name leaves many wondering if the running back will be playing with a star on his helmet in the upcoming season.

Romo interestingly did not bring up embattled running back Adrian Peterson, who is a Texas native and someone who many thought would sign with the Cowboys in 2015.
