Apple delays launch of HomeKit (Report)

While Apple never announced an official launch date for HomeKit, it turns out that the system has been harder to work out than the company anticipated. Now, the home automation platform might not be out until this fall.

Sources working on HomeKit told Fortune today that the system might not be available until late August or September. Some had anticipated that it would be available around May or June, possibly to launch around the Mother’s Day or Father’s Day holidays. However, that’s clearly not happening now.

Fortune’s sources say that creating a single system that would log-in to devices like light bulbs, door locks and alarms with one click on your smartphone or tablet is harder to do than Apple thought. Apparently, it is really tricky to create code that would link small devices.

According to CNet, the system was first announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in June 2014.

Apple did not comment on the Fortune report.
