David Letterman's 'Late Show' set thrown in dumpsters less then 24 hours after finale, fans salvage it

The day after David Letterman’s last Late Show filming after 33 years on-air, some pieces of his set were already in the dumpster outside of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater.

The finale was on Wednesday and less than 24 hours later, his set was thrown into the dumpster. Some fans weren’t going to stand by and let that happen, so there are some photos on Twitter of people dumpster diving for Late Show treasures.

Items such as Letterman’s skyline backdrop and chairs were thrown away then picked out by fans to take home as keepsakes. Expect them to pop up on eBay soon.

Us Weekly reports the marquee will be taken down next week to make room for Stephen Colbert’s takeover.

Although mostly everything from the set had to go, NPR reports his desk was bubble wrapped and saved. No word yet on where the desk will end up.

Famous guests such as Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey and Steve Martin all appeared on the final Late Show to send Letterman off.
